Bio
Joseph Arvidson, with a distinguished career spanning over 36 years in Corrections, began his professional journey as a Probation Officer with the Florida Department of Corrections in 1988 before transitioning to Ramsey County Community Corrections in 1995.
As a Planning Specialist for Ramsey County, Mr. Arvidson spearheaded strategic initiatives, innovative program developments, and impactful policy recommendations. He was instrumental in the creation and implementation of Ramsey County’s Effective Supervision Practices (ESP) model, developed in collaboration with national consultants Brad Bogue and Tom O’Connor. This groundbreaking work culminated in the publication of "New Model for Probation and Parole: Ramsey County Model" (RCCCD, Bogue, and O’Connor, 2013).
Mr. Arvidson’s influence extends beyond institutional achievements to academia and professional thought leadership. He has published extensively, with works exploring the Risk-Needs-Responsivity (RNR) framework and emerging desistance theories. Notably, his paper, "Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and the Risk-Needs-Responsivity Model," was published in the highly regarded journal Frontiers in Psychology.
As an adjunct faculty member at Concordia University and Metropolitan State University, Mr. Arvidson imparts his vast knowledge to the next generation of criminal justice professionals. He also serves on the Criminal Justice Advisory Board for Concordia University, further cementing his role as a mentor and advocate for academic excellence.
In 2024, Mr. Arvidson’s career reached an exciting new milestone when he was named a Fulbright Specialist by the U.S. State Department. This prestigious recognition allows him to collaborate with international partners on advancing best practices in corrections and criminal justice. His first assignment will take him to Uruguay, to support innovative reforms in their penitentiary system.
As the Executive Director of The Paragon Group, Mr. Arvidson continues to champion evidence-based practices, working with agencies across the U.S. and internationally in regions including Scotland, Barcelona, Australia, and the Middle East. His international collaborations reflect his commitment to integrating diverse perspectives into the global corrections community.
In addition to his consulting work, Mr. Arvidson is the founder of The Criminologist Media Group, where he amplifies the conversation around criminal justice reform through The Criminologist Podcast and its associated YouTube channel. These platforms reach a broad audience, offering insights on topics such as trauma-informed care, desistance, and the neuroscience of behavior change.
