Tom Sole joined the ABMC Headquarters staff at Arlington Virginia on July 1, 2002
after having served six years as the Director of Engineering and Maintenance at the
ABMC European Region’s headquarters, located in the suburbs of Paris at Garches,
France. He is the Chief, Engineering and Strategic Plans.
He is a 1980 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, where he graduated with a
concentration in Nuclear Physics. He has also earned a Master of Arts degree in Political
Science from the University of Chicago and another from the U.S. Army War College.
He is also a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College.
Mr. Sole is an Olmsted Scholar and studied for two years at the Political Science Institute
at Aix-en-Provence, France. He is a licensed professional engineer, holding a PE license
from the state of Virginia since 1985. He also speaks French.
As a commissioned officer in the US Army’s Corps of Engineers, Mr. Sole’s first
assignment was with the 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea. Upon returning to the
United States he was assigned to the Corps of Engineer District at Walla Walla, WA. He
commanded a combat engineer company as a part of the 7th Engineer Brigade in
Heilbronn, Germany, served as the International Housing Officer at SHAPE, was the 3rd
Infantry Division’s Engineer Brigade S4 while in Bamberg, Germany and was the
Bamberg Base Support Battalion operations officer prior to joining the ABMC in France.
He also taught International Relations and Political Analysis at the United States Military
Academy at West Point, NY from 1989 to 1992. He took an early retirement from the
Army in 1996 to work for the ABMC.
Mr. Sole was born at the US Army hospital in Stuttgart, Germany on December 9, 1958.
His three siblings are living in Connecticut. He has four children and seven
grandchildren.
