Murat Akova is the Professor of Medicine at Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. He obtained his MD degree from Istanbul University in 1982, and completed his residency training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at Hacettepe University School of Medicine.
Dr. Akova obtained a DSc degree in Clinical Microbiology from London Hospital Medical College, London, UK in 1989. From 1992 to 1993 he worked as a visiting scientist at the Center for Adaptive Resistance and Microbiology at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA, USA. Professor Akova served as the Vice Dean of the Medical School at the Hacettepe University between 2000 and 2006. During this time Professor Akova was also a faculty member in the Department of Medical Education and Medical Informatics.
He has served in the executive committee of the several inernational societies including EORTC-IDG, ESCMID (president 2014-2016, currently ESCMID Member Counsellor-EmeC) and ICHS (president-elect 2022-2024).
Dr. Akova is a member of Science Academy, Turkey. He is also the recipient of “Science Award-2020” from Hacettepe University. Professor Akova’s scientific research interests include infections in immunocompromised host, antimicrobial resistance, good clinical practice in clinical trials.
