Ryan has been the School Business Manager at Oriel High School since August 2010. One of Ryan’s early responsibilities at the school was being the link to the Local authority (LA) youth wing on site. When the LA suffered funding cuts in 2012 Ryan took the decision that the school would operate the youth wing directly so the service to young people could be maintained. It has proved to be a good decision as other youth services continued to close, Oriels youth wing thrived..
Before joining the school, Ryan worked in youth and play services, further education where between teaching on both FE and HE courses he oversaw student services including the student union, and then as a local authority education officer supporting headteachers/schools build partnerships with public and private sector organisations that enhanced students learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
