Ivy Saunyama is an Agricultural Officer with the FAO Pest and Pesticide Management Team, Plant Production and Protection Division. She is outposted to the FAO Subregional Office for Southern Africa in Harare, Zimbabwe. An Entomologist by training, she holds an MSc in Crop Protection; Post Graduate Diploma in Pesticide Risk Management and BSc (Hons) in Agriculture (Crop Sciences). Ivy has 25 years' experience in pest and pesticide management, and focus of her works has largely been on promoting sound life cycle management of pesticides, risk reduction for Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) and promotion of safer alternatives (e.g., through IPM and other agroecosystem based practices) and mainstreaming biodiversity into agriculture. For the past 10 years Ivy has been working closely with Pesticide Regulators in East and Southern Africa, supporting various capacity building activities, including training on the FAO Pesticide Registration Toolkit and promoting regional collaboration and harmonization of pesticide regulation.
