Dr. Dave Menshew was born and raised in California’s great central valley. Growing up, he was one of those highly motivated kids that took the family lawnmower and knocked on doors to make extra money. By the time he was 19, he was the buyer for a local industrial supply firm. He used that training when he purchased a retail store franchise, being the first to take his store over a million dollars in sales. From that he developed his own chain of stores, eventually topping several million dollars a year in combined sales.
Along the way, he was challenged by a guard who worked at the local juvenile hall, to come and do volunteer work teaching the young men and women about careers as an alternative way of life. This he did, and found it so rewarding that he sold his stores and entered teaching. Realizing that he would need more skills and education and embarked on a path where he attained seven teaching authorizations and five college degrees over the succeeding decades.
Along the way, he was challenged by one of his professors to use his training to start a biotechnology program in his school district, where he was teaching. He did so, and his efforts were honored with numerous awards from site teacher of the year to state teacher of the year for one organization to the national teacher of the year for two others. Both Omega Psi Phi, and the Association of Mexican American Educators as well as the Rotary have honored Dr. Dave’s work. Local press and television outlets have reported on his innovative approach to education.
His papers have been published several times on his methods of engaging students in journals and periodicals. He has presented these at numerous state, local, national, and international conferences.
His path to Masonry began when he observed that all of the Masons he knew were the kind of men he wanted to be. He asked, and joined the craft in 1989, was raised in 1990, and became a Shriner in 1990. Presently he is the Ambassador, Secretary, and Mobile Unit member of the Modesto Shrine Club of Aahmes Temple, Livermore. He is also an officer of the Stockton Valley Scottish Rite Masons and was their Mason of the Year for 2023. He is an officer in the Knights of St. Andrew for that valley as well.
