Matt’s longstanding interest in travel first manifest itself professionally when he was invited to run the State of Oregon Tourism account for ad agency Wieden & Kennedy. A few years later at a different agency, he led the State of Washington Tourism account.
Following that, as the first-ever Chief Marketing Officer at San Francisco Travel, Matt led the rename and rebrand of the 100-year-old organization, re-imagined and transformed the visitor information experience, and oversaw the redesign of the outdated website as well as explosive growth in social media engagement. He also drove significant growth in private revenue associated with strategic alliances and led the development of a brand new membership structure. Subsequently, in his role as Chief Marketing Officer and SVP of Sales at CityPASS, he oversaw a complete rebrand of the company’s visual identity, the launch of the brand in China, and deepened the company’s marketing partnerships with their 78 attraction partners and 19 DMOs.
Since then, Matt’s consulted with a diverse set of tourism entities, including Visit Seattle, Vintage Wine Estates, AFAR Magazine, and he wrote the travel narrative for Pinterest. He’s been recognized as a creative and innovative tourism leader, and has been published multiple times on Skift.com.
