Healthcare is broken and I would like to be a part of fixing it. I believe that the medical laboratory industry needs to be disrupted, and I spend each day advocating for the value of clinical laboratories and seeking new and more efficient ways for my medical lab clients to bring clinical value to the healthcare ecosystem, and ultimately, the patient. It is estimated that 70 percent of all decisions regarding a patient's diagnosis, treatment, hospital admission, and discharge are based on the results of the tests medical laboratory scientists perform. However, most people don't know what a Medical Laboratory Scientist does and less than 3% of healthcare dollars are spent on the laboratory.
I seek to bring the lab out of the shadows and have it recognized as the backbone of the healthcare system. The currency of the lab is data, and I am optimistic that as AI and machine learning become a bigger part of healthcare that the laboratory's value will finally be recognized and the individuals who work in clinical labs will receive the respect they deserve.
