Orfeas Sotiriou is an alumnus of the National School of Public Administration and Local Government of Greece. Prior to his entrance to the National School, he had worked as a Police Sergeant for 20 years out of which 6 at the Antiquities and Cultural Heritage Department of Greek Police. Furthermore, he holds a Bachelor and a Master in Archaeology from the National and
Kapodistrian University of Athens. His Master Thesis (cum Laude) was an in-depth examination of the illicit trafficking of cultural heritage property phenomenon in Greece. Since 2016 Orfeas has been included in the OSCE's expert roster and consequently has joined the major training workshops of the organization around the world. Furthermore, in 2019 Orfeas created the first ever Handbook for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Property. By combining details extracted from 1000 official arrests related to cultural heritage crimes he developed a unique risk scale for the protection of Cultural Heritage Sites. As an expert, he has helped Homeland Security of the USA, INTERPOL and WCO in various cases with stolen cultural heritage objects, and he has achieved repatriation of antiquities.
