Winner of “Sisters Anti-Trafficking Awards 2023” in London. Sister Patricia Ebegbulem is a Sister from Saint Louis (SSL) in Nigeria, West Africa.
She became involved in the fight against human trafficking and women's issues in 1996, when she was National President of the Nigerian Conference of Women Religious from 1996 to 2002. In this capacity, she and her executive founded the Committee for the Support of the Dignity of Women (COSUDOW), a network that is at the forefront of the fight against human trafficking. Sister Patricia later became the African Coordinator of the African Network Against Human Trafficking (ANAHT). She was also the African Coordinator of TALITHAKUM - International Network of Consecrated Life against Trafficking in Persons from 2009 to 2019. At the end of her tenure at TALITHAKUM, she received an award in recognition of her pioneering role in the anti-trafficking movement in Nigeria and her significant contribution to the fight against human trafficking in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. Sister Patricia is the author of STOP TRAFFICKING IN WOMEN & CHILDREN: It's a Crime Against Humanity (Handbook for Schools). She is currently the coordinator of the BAKHITA Shelter: St. Louis Empowerment Network. Pope Benedict XVI honoured Patricia Ebegbulem SSL in 2012 with the highest Papal honour for Consecrated persons, the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal.
