Chan is a Grade 10 student from Victoria, British Columbia. His Youth Innovation Showcase submission, Spinal Solution, is an electronic device that can detect cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
In the event of severe physical trauma, the detection of CSF leakage is vital to avoid life threatening conditions, from strokes to meningitis. With existing methods inaccurate or too research-intensive, Chan’s innovation aims to implement decisive detection in a trauma ward setting.
