Paul has over 20 years of surgical nursing experience and became a Stoma Care Nurse Specialist in 2011. As a SCN, Paul has led on the development of protocols, policies, and integrated digital platforms to aid both service development and the care of patients. Audit, process and documentation rigor has always been at the heart of Paul’s work.
Focusing on the surgical needs of patients with IBD, he developed pathways for the early communication between medics and surgeons to improve the care provided to patients and empower them in their care long before surgery had been discussed. Digital media and the use digital communication remains high on his agenda.
Throughout his career, education for both patients and nurses alike has been a passion and when the opportunity to join Coloplast presented itself in 2018 the choice was an easy one as he has able to continue to support both patients and nurses in delivering high levels of individualised, evidence-based care.
Since joining Coloplast, Paul has commenced his Masters and has been published extensively on the use of validated tools within stoma care and standardised nursing language and a key area of interest is enabling SCN’s to demonstrate the value of their role and service and to publish their work to raise the profile and body of evidence in stoma care.
