About
Higher energy density, increased flexibility, scalability and low noise are some of the key features Envision says the latest generation of its battery energy storage technology – launched in October 2025 - offers compared to previous iterations. The Chinese battery maker’s Gen 8 Scalable Platform integrates 750+ Ah cells in a 10 MWh system which comes in 10-foot modular units, with each unit weighing under 29 tons.

The company says the lighter, smaller container makes the system more scalable and adaptable, while the cell technology delivers a powerful energy density, a 26% smaller footprint for typical four-hour systems and 12% lower auxiliary power consumption. These features improve the internal rate of return by an estimated 1% for a 100 MW, four-hour project compared to a 5 MWh baseline, the company maintains.

Chi Zhang, chief product solution engineer at Envision, will join us to explain what the Gen 8 platform’s higher energy density and scalable design means for the wider utility-scale battery energy storage industry.

Based in Shanghai, Chi has experience in multiple technologies including flow-based batteries and he has a specific interest in system safety and environmental durability. He will give us his insights into these topics using the Gen 8 platform as a case study.
