Stephen Briers

Stephen Briers has been an automotive business journalist for more than 30 years, starting his career with vehicle accident repair title Body Magazine in 1993.

He joined Emap in 1998 and was editor of leading franchised dealer publication Automotive Management from 2002-2009 during which time he was named Emap Automotive’s editor of the year.

Editor of Fleet News since 2009, with the brand winning Bauer Media’s website of the year in 2011, Stephen was promoted to group editor of Fleet News and Automotive Management in 2015, overseeing the content strategy across digital, social media and events. Since October 2023, his portfolio of brands also includes RAIL magazine.

Duncan leads the iconic AA Fleet in the UK, with responsibility for over 12,000 vehicles. An accountant by trade, his fleet career now spans over 25 years running and providing service to the largest fleets across the UK.

James Rooney
Head of road fleet, Network Rail
Head of Fleet at Network Rail, joining in January 2023 after 10 years working for Centrica’s (British Gas) fleet.
Responsible for managing nearly 10,000 vehicles end to end with a mix of cars, vans and HGV’s all having uptime and performance at it’s heart to support Britain’s railway infrastructure.

Keen to ensure safety and compliance, he holds a Transport Manager and Driver CPC and in 2022 completed the AFP Advanced course, attaining the Outstanding Achievement Award, and making him a Fellow of the Association of Fleet Professionals.

Key on the agenda for the next 5 years is the swift and diligent transition to Zero Emissions Vehicles with particular attention to cost control and end user experience.

Having worked at three vehicle leasing companies, two car manufacturers, and two energy companies, Matt has a unique, end-to-end perspective on fleet challenges. He genuinely blends his passion for vehicles with a drive for sustainability.

In his current role, Matt leads fleet solutions at Octopus Fleet. His focus is on using this deep fleet knowledge to help corporate customers electrify their fleets and beyond, backed by Octopus' suite of innovative products for businesses.
