Following the postponement of a decision on the IMO Net Zero Framework at MEPC/ES.2 in London and the outcomes of COP 30 in Belem, selected IAPH member ports will reflect on shifts in their priorities and explain their strategic plans for decarbonization. Vinicius Patel, regional VP for Central & South America and director of port administration at Port of Açu will share his on-the-ground take on COP 30 and discuss the implications of current geopolitical realities with moderator Antonis Michail (IAPH technical director). IAPH member ports from Africa, Asia and Europe (speakers to be confirmed) will share their views and discuss their climate and energy- related initiatives.

Vinicius Patel
Port Administration Director, Porto do Açu
Mr. Patel is an executive with 20 years of experience in the port, oil and gas, and logistics industries. He served as a C-Level executive in different companies and markets. He has been Port Administration Director at Porto do Açu Operações since 2019, in charge of maritime management, infrastructure, QSMS (Quality, Health, Environment, and Safety), institutional relations and Services at the port. His challenge is to operate and develop Açu efficiently and safely, in line with best ESG practices. He also stands as IAPH (International Association of Ports and Habors) Vice President for Central and South Americas, Board Member of Efen Marine (JV BP | Prumo) and Board Chairman of ESI – Environment Ship Index Initiative.
Antonis Michail
Technical Director, World Ports Sustainability Program, IAPH
Dr Antonis Michail is an engineer in background with specialisation on the environmental management of ports and freight transport systems at Master and PhD level, and with more than 18 years of professional experience in these fields. In 2018, Antonis joined the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) as Technical Director of its Policy and Strategy Unit and the World Ports Sustainability Program (WPSP). As such, Antonis coordinates the work of the IAPH Technical Committees on Climate and Energy, Risk and Resilience and Data Collaboration and supervises all initiatives under the WPSP umbrella.
Before joining IAPH, Antonis worked for 8 years as Senior Policy Advisor on sustainability and safety matters at the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO). Since 2003, Antonis was involved in the EcoPorts network of ports from various posts, including managing projects and coordinating the network’s activities and development until 2017.

Sophie Delannoy
Program Manager Sustainable Transport Fuels, North Sea Port
Sophie Delannoy is a seasoned logistics professional with a rich background in the transportation industry. Her career has been marked by a dedication to enhancing supply chain efficiency, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable logistics practices.
In 2010 Sophie embarked on her logistics journey, joining Lineas, a leading European rail freight operator. Her roles at Lineas spanned various areas of logistics management, from operations to strategic planning. The main focus in her work was on the implementation of new international transport projects & the establishment of international partner agreements. Her innovative approach led to increased efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and cost savings for the company.
Sophie's passion for logistics excellence and sustainability caught the attention of the Flanders Institute for Logistics (Vlaams Instituut voor de Logistiek - VIL). In 2020 she joined VIL as a project lead, where she played a pivotal role in shaping the future of logistics in the Flanders region. In this capacity, Sophie collaborated with industry partners, government agencies, and academic institutions to develop cutting-edge logistics strategies. Her work focused on fostering collaboration across the value chain in order to facilitate the fuel shift, electrification and energy transition within the logistics sector.
Driven by a desire to further contribute to the logistic transition, Sophie joined the cross-border North Sea Port company in 2022. There she runs the Sustainable Transport Fuels Program. She is currently involved in national policy discussions in Flanders and the Netherlands. Sophie’s expertise lies in assessing port related opportunities where logistics & energy are intertwined, for example Port readiness for maritime fuels and CO2 reduction roadmap for shipping.
Bringing project partners together and translating top-down global & EU policies to local reality and vice versa finding collaboration among local industries. Taking part in EU subsidiary programs, Sophie is involved in projects on electrification, sustainable fuels and clean energy hubs.
Stefanus Gariseb

Stefanus Gariseb is a seasoned Professional in Risk Management with over 15 years of expertise in SHREQ (Safety, Health, Risk, Environment and Quality) disciplines across mining and maritime sectors. He holds advanced qualifications, including a Master of Management, a PDip in Project Management and Sustainable Port Operations. He leads the Risk Management Function at Namport, where he also spearheads the organization’s sustainability drive through initiatives aimed at transitioning the port into a green port.
