Origin of the goods - NAFTA vs USMCA,
Risks and Consequences from a U.S. and Mexico Perspective

    February 10th, 2022
    10:30 a.m. - noon CDT

The implementation of the USMCA on July 1st, 2020 brought about a number of significant upgrades to the NAFTA agreement. Nearly one and a half years into the new agreement, exporters and importers are gradually beginning to experience the real-life challenges and risks presented by the updates and additions to the rules. This is of particular importance as one should recognize that in addition to potential origin verifications under the USMCA, NAFTA verifications can still be conducted until June 30, 2025 for trade transactions that took place up to June 30, 2020 (the date when NAFTA was replaced with the USMCA)

This seminar will review the main differences between both agreements and highlight areas that exporters and importers need to be aware of as they conduct day-to-day trade transactions. Our speakers will also review recent developments impacting trade between USMCA countries with an emphasis on the way that certain provisions in the agreement are being interpreted and applied by MX and US exporters and importers.

Speakers: Brenda Cordova, Mexico Attorney, Braumiller Law Group, PLLC and John Senese, President and CEO of ChemJays LLC dba ChemJays Global Trade Group
