Edit
Ultraviolet energy (UV) curing, also known as energy curing, has been used by the composites industry for some time, but it is still not quite as well-known as some other curing chemistries. The extremely rapid cure speed leads to high throughput and productivity, while the breath of physical properties of the cured resins allow them to be used in a variety of applications. The possibility of making lower VOC/styrene free formulations with very long pot life and reduced waste are also benefits of UV technology.

In this presentation, allnex will briefly review what UV curing entails and compare the advantages and challenges of energy curing with thermally curing technologies (for example, peroxide curing of UP resins). In addition to comparing the chemistry of these approaches, we will also look at which composite manufacturing methods best lend themselves to energy curing. We will show some examples of UV curing being used in today’s composites world and where it might go in the future.

Finally, we will review allnex’s line of RAYLOK C products for UV curable composite manufacturing.
