Infant feeding practices can have an important influence on both infant and maternal health. The ‘Feeding in the First Year of Life’ report published by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) in 2018 was the first major review of infant feeding practices undertaken in the UK for over 20 years. The main conclusions and recommendations made by the expert committee will be discussed, in relation to advice on breastfeeding and the introduction of complementary foods, including advice on allergenic foods and supplementation.
