Electroluminescence (EL) imaging is one of the most powerful diagnostic tools to detect cell cracks and degradation in solar modules. Until now, however, EL testing has largely remained a laboratory or factory procedure, as it requires current injection into the module strings. “A complex task in the field, as it has to be performed at night and typically requires substantial on-site manpower to manage current injection safely and efficiently.”
Quantified Energy aims to change that. The company has developed an automated drone-based EL inspection solution that its inventors say brings laboratory precision to large-scale PV plants. Yong Sheng Khoo, chief operating officer and co-founder of Quantified Energy, will explain how the system enables fully automated EL measurements directly in the field. And he will discuss how this allows plant owners to identify defects, assess degradation, and provide reliable documentation for warranty or insurance cases.
A key innovation comes from a collaboration with inverter manufacturer Ingeteam.
“Instead of requiring on-ground manpower for current injection, the system now enables fully contactless current injection through the inverter itself. This advancement simplifies field operations, enhances safety, and significantly reduces the cost of EL measurements.” Pablo Rocamora Labat, SA Engineer at Ingeteam, will present how this integration works and what it means for practical field applications.
pv magazine Webinar content:
• How EL imaging works and what types of defects it can reveal
• Why automated drone flights make EL inspections faster and more affordable
• Insights from real-world PV projects using this approach
. How the cooperation between Quantified Energy and Ingeteam enables efficient current injection
We encourage you to take part in the discussion and ask questions, which can be submitted beforehand or through a chat window during the webinar. This webinar will be moderated by Marian Willuhn, senior editor at pv magazine.
