Terry McGavin
Terry is Principal Tunnels Engineer at the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi. He represents the agency on the Austroads Tunnels Taskforce. He was previously involved with the refurbishment of the Terrace and Mt Victoria Tunnels, then afterwards as Tunnel Manager for 10 years. He is involved in the development and maintenance of tunnel standards and life cycle asset management plans. He is also the National Tunnel Safety Officer as well as Chair of the NZ Tunnels Emergency Response Group, a group liaising with emergency services.
Laura Procter
Laura is the Team Leader of SMEC’s Traffic Engineering and Road Safety team, which sits with the Transport Planning & Advisory Business. Laura provides expert traffic engineering and road safety technical and advisory services and is an experienced project manager. Laura’s recent role as Road Safety Lead for the Burnley Tunnel Enhancement Project gave her front-row experience with the challenges and constraints that need to be overcome in the design of a road lighting system in an existing road tunnel. An effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills, Laura enjoys collaborating with internal and external project stakeholders to contribute to the success of a project. Laura strives to deliver safe and appropriate project outcomes for clients and the community, which improve transport networks, infrastructure and operational resilience.
Paul Doig
Paul Doig is a highly experienced electrical engineer with over 18 years in the lighting and infrastructure sector, specialising in tunnel and road lighting design for complex infrastructure projects. He holds a Master of Lighting and a Postgraduate Certificate in Lighting from QUT, underpinning his technical expertise with robust academic credentials.
Ambrose Cornelio
Ambrose is a first-generation immigrant who arrived from India in 2006. Prior to his arrival in Australia, he worked in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia) for over 15 years as the Head of the Planning and Engineering Division responsible for bidding and winning various projects from concept until demobilization.
In Australia, Ambrose has gained experience in contract administration and project management, including facility operations and maintenance. He has also completed a Master of Project Management at RMIT, a course in Prince2 and a short course in contract law fundamentals. With this knowledge, Ambrose's delivers high-impact projects, including planning and execution of projects to monitor costs and ensure compliance with the specific project outcomes, specifications, program, environmental and safety requirements.
Ray Sarich
Ray Sarich is an accomplished lighting industry professional with over a decade of experience, beginning his career in 2012. As General Manager of Lumitex Ltd, Ray brings a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership, and customer-centric focus to the organisation.
Driven by a deep passion for electronics, diagnostics, systems, and people, Ray has established himself as a proficient lighting designer with advanced capabilities in AGI32, DIALux, and TULIP roadway lighting software.
His strong command of lighting technical parameters, product design, and application has played a critical role in Lumitex’s success across diverse project environments.
In addition to his lighting design expertise, Ray is skilled in programming and general software development, enabling him to bridge the gap between lighting technology and integrated system solutions.
Jason Bretherton
Jason is an Electrical Engineer and Technical Director with WSP in New Zealand.
He has 30 years’ experience in electrical systems for buildings and transport infrastructure including numerous road and rail tunnels across New Zealand and overseas.
Jason has been involved with leading and delivering solutions for tunnel systems including lighting and controls infrastructure for both new-build and upgrade or refurbishment projects.
This includes the recent Terrace Tunnel lighting upgrade in Wellington and scoping for the proposed upgrade for Lyttelton tunnel in Christchurch.
Presently he is also M&E design lead for the Mt Messenger Tunnel (240m) currently under construction and is leading the reference design for the tunnel systems on the Northland Corridor Tunnels (2 x 1,050m) which will be delivered via a PPP.
