Dennis will introduce his 3-book Overture series and share teaching and performing tips, and Artina will demonstrate her arrangements of African American folk songs and speak about the importance of introducing piano students to different traditions and cultures.

Presenter
Dennis Alexander has earned an international reputation as one of North America’s most prolific and popular composers of educational piano music. His compositions are routinely included in the National Federation of Music bulletin, and his music is performed by students in the United States and around the world. Mr. Alexander is a native Kansan and graduate of the University of Kansas. He was department chair and faculty at the University of Montana and has also served on the faculties of Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge. He has toured worldwide, performing recitals and presenting workshops in Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea. Mr. Alexander currently lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he continues an active composing and touring schedule.

Artina McCain is a professor, independent pedagogue, and concert artist based in Memphis, Tennessee. She has dedicated her career to performing, recording, and teaching the works of composers of African descent and has won multiple Global Music Awards and an American Prize for her recordings of I, Too (voice/piano), Heritage (solo piano) and Shades (trombone/piano). Dr. McCain received her Master of Music from Cleveland Institute of Music and holds a doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

Charmaine Siagian received her BM and MM degrees in piano performance from Youngstown State University and her DMA in piano performance and pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma. Originally from Sabah, Malaysia, Charmaine authored the Malay Folk Songs Collection published by Hal Leonard, where she is editor of educational piano.
