Derek Tangredi
Director of Integrated STEAM Education
Derek is dedicated to engaging and empowering students while uncovering their passions through coding, making and inquiry. Derek joins FCL with a background in education, engineering and business. Currently, on a leave of absence from the Thames Valley District School Board in London Ontario, Derek brings his passion for sharing his knowledge on STEAM education and extending learning beyond the classroom. As a recognized expert in STEM education, he has spoken at a number of events across Canada on subjects including Makerspaces, Coding in the Classroom, Math, Engineering, and Robotics. Derek has also been an advisor and consultant with a number of schools, helping them to identify and acquire the edtech resources and technology that best filled their needs.
Barb Seaton
Professional Learning Associate, Fair Chance Learning
Barb is an educator and lifelong learner, passionate about making mathematics accessible to all. As a previous educator with Thames Valley District School Board in London Ontario, and a Provincial Mathematics Professional Learning Facilitator, Barb offers a wealth of knowledge and expertise in integrating new technology with math curriculum. Barb works with District School Boards across Canada delivering professional learning on computational thinking, coding and integrating programmable devices, Makey Makey and more. She strives to empower educators to see the many technology connections that can enhance their curriculum.
Laura Flemming
Worlds of Making LLC, Educator
Laura Fleming has been an educator in the state of New Jersey for over 20 years. She is also the author of two best-selling makerspace books, Worlds of Making: Best Practices for Establishing a Makerspace for Your School, as well as The Kickstart Guide to Making GREAT Makerspaces.
Laura currently serves as an adjunct professor for Rutgers University, where she designed and is teaching a graduate course on makerspaces. She is the founder of Worlds of Making, LLC, an educational company designed to offer meaningful professional development makerspace experiences for educators. She is also the co-founder of Hands-On Coding, LLC, which aims to offer kinesthetic coding experiences to children.
Kyle Kitchen
DSBN IT Consultant
Kyle Kitchen is the Elementary IT4 Learning Consultant for the DSBN and is a Maker, coder, speaker, leader and all-around teacher of innovation. He is passionate about inspiring teachers and students to enhance their learning through modern technologies. Kyle can often be found sharing creative designs, and integrating uses of high and low-tech projects that are rooted in thinking critically about curriculum and understanding of the world around us. Through his mindset of the maker culture, coding, design thinking and support of the UN Sustainable goals he believes that innovation stems from a curiosity and a willingness to explore the possibilities that may be outside regular thinking.
