In this clinic, we will discuss some of the challenges community bands face in terms of instrumentation and ability range. Strategies will be presented for literature selection, development of the overall band’s skillset as it relates to literature selection, as well as some how-to items for overcoming instrumentation roadblocks. The presentation will cover three types of literature LGBA bands typically perform with one significant concert band piece, one pop/show collection piece, and one pop parade/marching band selection.
Items to discuss:
• Selecting literature appropriate for what you have
• Selecting literature to help your group grow both musically and in size
• Solving instrumentation issues to allow you to play what you want
