Fully automated assembly lines used for automotive manufacturing continue to pose new challenges for fastener suppliers. The fact that automotive manufacturers pursue different assembly strategies means that well-known friction standards such as ISO 16047, while enjoying a high level of recognition worldwide, no longer reflect the reality on the assembly lines of the world's largest automotive manufacturers. Current test standards, such as MBN 10544, define new requirements for friction measurement, such as tightening speed adjustment, multiple mounting and behavior against different washer materials.

Having a single surface finishing solution that meets the various specification requirements while being reproducible on a wide range of fasteners is a challenging task for the chemical suppliers – but one that can be met.
This webinar will give you an overview of the latest friction requirements from the automotive industry, the challenges they present and introduce Atotech’s process solutions that can fully meet these demanding requirements.

Join us to familiarize yourselves with the latest friction requirements for threaded fasteners and update yourself on the latest process technologies, as these are key to meeting all demands and requirements made today and for the future.
  • Introduction to surface finishing technologies for automotive fasteners
  • Industrial assembly requirements and related challenges for surface finishing technologies
  • Comparison of friction requirements contained in the VW 01131 and Daimler MBN 10544 standards
  • Field test results: One coating system that meets friction requirements on 15 different fastener types
  • Process stability and the outlook for alternative systems
