Dr. Michael Fields
MD, OBGYN
Michael Fields, MD is a board certified OBGYN practicing gynecologic surgery and obstetrics in the Knoxville area for 10 years. He is originally from south Louisiana, but has considered Knoxville home for almost 30 years. He is a graduate of Bearden High School, Carson Newman College, and Quillen College of Medicine, and completed his residency training at the University of Tennessee
In addition to his practice of obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Fields has long been an advocate and pioneer in the field of robotic and computer assisted surgery and the benefits of this technique for minimally invasive gynecological surgery. He performed the first robotic laparoscopic hysterectomy in the region in August of 2006. He performed the first robotic assisted laser treatment of endometriosis in the nation, and utilized this new laser to perform the first robotic laser hysterectomy worldwide.
Dr. Fields is designated as a robotic ‘Epicenter’ surgeon, one of 20 in the nation with the distinction, denoting a center of excellence in his practice of robotic surgery to treat his patients and to teach advanced skills to other surgeons.
Dr. Fields has served on numerous hospital and health related boards in our region, and was chosen as one of few consultants to the President’s national Health and Wellness for Women directive.
