This presentation will provide practical and skills-based learning for mental health professionals on the topic of perfectionism. We will begin by defining perfectionism and its domains and discussing perfectionism’s association with other difficulties. Dr. Shikatani will present the cognitive behavioral model of perfectionism, and discuss how perfectionism can play a role in the etiology, maintenance, and course of many psychological difficulties, including anxiety, OCD, depression, and eating disorders. We will also look closely at assessment strategies and the CBT treatment skills of cognitive restructuring and changing perfectionistic behaviors, including procrastination.

Learning objectives:

-Learn how to assess perfectionism in patients presenting with various psychopathology
-Discuss how to apply the cognitive behavioral model of perfectionism to patients whose problems are maintained by perfectionism
-Understand how to provide empirically supported cognitive behavioral strategies for perfectionism
