About
When developing solar projects of any size, safe, reliable operation is always a hallmark consideration, however fuses are commonly overlooked as one of a project’s critical points for providing safe and reliable power delivery.

While many installations have historically utilized general use fuses, solar projects are faced with circumstances outside of normal fuses’ intended operation, necessitating the use of fuses developed specifically for these applications.

Solar-specific fuses have been developed to operate reliably in varying weather conditions and different times of day, both of which cause fluctuating levels of panel power generation and inconsistent levels of electrical current. They are also designed to cover a wider array of temperature fluctuations.

In this pv magazine Webinar, we will learn about the role solar fuses play in projects, as well as how solar fuses are unique compared to general-purpose fuses and how to properly size solar fuses to increase efficiency.

Presenter Immanuel Umenei, Global Segment Manager, Renewable Energy, Littelfuse, Inc., will dive into his first-hand experience on how the implementation of the technology leads to safer and more reliable project operations keeping energy delivery high and fulfilling contract requirements. Supporting these claims will be examinations into real-world fuse failures, their causes and how future failure events can be avoided.

Immanuel will also provide comparison between solar fuses and traditional fuses, highlighting the usage requirements that led to the innovations solar fuses bring to the table. He will also discuss current safety standard requirements, how these requirements affect usage, and provide perspective on the ever-evolving atmosphere of safety standards.
