A 2021 survey of 6,500 people from the USA, UK, and Germany found that among the 19 million meetings that were observed, the ineffective meetings cost up to $399 billion in the US and $58 billion in the UK.

Statistics South Africa has published its Quarterly Employment Survey (QES) for Q4 2021, showing that the average monthly earnings paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural sector was R23,982 per month.

According to the surveys quoted above, ineffective meetings make professionals lose 31 hours every month, which adds up to 4 working days per month, at an average cost R4 796 per employee per month.

So, for every 100 employees in your company earning the average salary, the money going down the drain every month due to unproductive meetings could be as high as R479 640, or R5.8 million per year.

Makes one think, doesn’t it?
