This webinar will overview the human gut microbiome in health and disease. It will show how the microbiota is acquired and highlight differences that breast and formula feeding can induce. The concept of probiotics will be briefly mentioned but the main focus will be on prebiotics. These are ingredients that stimulate a beneficial gut microbial community. They are prevalent in human breast milk. Examples of prebiotics will be given along with summaries of research studies showing their benefits.
