“What I find exciting about planting design is watching a plant asked to do a real job in a space – whether it is softening a hard line of architecture, screening a boundary or framing a view – that still stops you in your tracks,” she says. “For me, great planting is never doing just one job. It’s an equilateral triangle: it must be evocative and beguiling; it must deliver spades of rich ecological benefit; and it must do the practical, heavy-lifting work of planting as a tool.”
