This course builds on the foundations taught in Introduction U.S. Corporate Taxation. Now that participants understand the fundamentals, we will put that into practice with case studies and examples of preparing different sections of the 1120. During this course, attendees will also learn about personal holding companies and how they differ from parent companies we learned about in part one, and how to track ownership equity and basis for reporting on the tax return

  • Understand and report passive income - Dividend, Interest, Rental, and Capital Gains
  • Understanding how to read an income statement and report it on page 1 of the 1120
  • Understanding how to read a balance sheet and report in on Schedule L
  • How to read an income statement and prepare Schedule M-1
  • How to read a statement of retained earnings and prepare Schedule M-2

Timalyn S. Bowens, EA, is an IRS-licensed enrolled agent who has been in the tax industry since 2011. She founded Bowens Tax & Bookkeeping Solutions in 2016, focusing on helping small businesses maintain IRS compliance. After becoming an enrolled agent, she expanded her services to negotiate with the IRS and represent clients in audits. In 2021, her company rebranded to Bowens Tax Solutions, concentrating on IRS representation for taxpayers. Timalyn is an active member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents, serving on the Membership and Social Media committees, and is involved with Bellarmine University's Alumni Board of Directors and Alumni Ambassador program. She also serves as treasurer for TECH-nique, a nonprofit supporting girls of color in STEM, and is on a committee assisting unhoused women in Louisville. Timalyn holds a Bachelor's degree in accounting from Bellarmine University, where she interned with Crowe Horwath, gaining experience in tax preparation and planning, which sparked her passion for tax law and taxpayer representation.
