Sr. Research Compliance Specialist
Penny Maher is a Sr. Research Compliance Specialist in the Division of Research, Office of Research Integrity and Oversight. Penny is a native Houstonian, however, she has lived in different places around the world, both as a child and as an adult with her husband and family. Penny returned to Houston from Europe in 2000 and joined the staff at the University of Houston in 2011, first in the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department in the Business Office and then the Division of Research in 2013. Penny is a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a BBA in Accounting. Penny oversees the Conflict of Interest in Research certification process, the Responsible Conduct of Research, and Research Misconduct allegations.

Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School
Dr. Larsen joined the University of Houston in July, 2018 as Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School. Over the past two years, she has initiated cross-campus professional development for graduate students with campus partners in the Graduate School, University Career Services, the UH Library, the Writing Center and the Office of Research.

Equal Opportunity Coordinator & Trainer
Wiley Graham is the Equal Opportunity Coordinator & Trainer with the Equal Opportunity Services office (EOS) here at the University of Houston (UH). Originally from Southfield, Michigan, Wiley graduated from Michigan State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Agri-Business Management and went on to earn a Law Degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2012. Wiley then moved to Houston, Texas in 2016, and worked as a Federal Contract Equal Employment Opportunity Investigator reviewing claims of discrimination. Wiley served as Deputy Title IX Coordinator & Investigator for the University of Texas San Antonio until joining the University of Houston in the fall of 2020, where he facilitates the equal opportunity training process and facilitates the UH employee reasonable workplace accommodation process among other things.

Career Counselor
Ayo Ogunye joins University Career Services (UCS) as the Alumni Career Counselor. She also serves as the liaison for the School of Communication and the Hobby School of Public Affairs. Ayo has over 10 years of experience providing professional development assistance and career counseling to secondary and post-secondary students.

Ayo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and a Masters of Arts in Professional Counseling from Central Michigan University. With her passion for lifelong learning education and professional development, she recently completed a Project Management Certification training and is currently enrolled in a Master of Business Administration program at the University of Houston Victoria.

Ayo previously provided career services to Workforce Development programs in the following areas: youth development, dislocated worker retraining, career assessment test administration, financial aid and workforce vocational training opportunities for several years. She was also recognized for providing supportive services to employees and employers in the Houston Galveston area.

She has a passion for empowering individuals to realize their potential while developing actionable and attainable job search plans. Ayo has a unique work history that includes working with diverse groups locally and internationally, in the areas of professional development, job retention, job development and employment services. Her background and experience has provided her with a set of skills to aid career services in the areas of resume writing, mock interviews, networking, career event preparation and development of related job search workshops. Ayo believes that with the right plan, tools and encouragement, an individual can attain any goal they set for themselves.

Sr. Research Compliance Specialist
Laura Gutiérrez is a Sr. Research Compliance Specialist in the office of Research Integrity and Oversight within the Division of Research. Laura was born in Madrid, Spain and moved to Houston with her parents in the mid 80’s. She is a University of Houston alumna having received both a B.S. and a Ph.D. in Biology. After conducting research and teaching for several years, she joined the Division of Research in 2016. Laura is responsible for Research Congruency Reviews, Post-Approval Monitoring, and the Responsible Conduct of Research.

Psychologist
Dr. McCain joined the CAPS team in 2016 and has worked with college students for nearly a decade. In addition to her role of providing individual counseling, she coordinates the Groups program at CAPS and manages the department’s social media pages. Dr. McCain’s approach to therapy is collaborative and informed by an interpersonal, emotion-focused, and multicultural lens. Although she considers herself to be a generalist, she has a passion for working with individuals with marginalized identities. She also has a special interest in providing outreach services to diverse audiences.
