About
Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) is a Category A1 carcinogen and is found in many different materials such as bricks, tiles, aggregates, mortar, concrete, shale, engineered & natural stone products, sandstone, and fibre cement sheeting. Silica-containing materials are commonly used in industries such as construction, manufacturing, stone benchtop fabrication and tunnelling.

Although RCS has been recognised as an occupational risk for over 100 years, it continues to be a hazard to workers, businesses and the general public.

A modern approach to dust management requires a holistic approach, with input from various industries and professionals across the country.

Recently, some businesses have had their competencies challenged, resulting in prosecutions and the requirement for retraining.

Join Greencap at this exclusive event to ensure that management of RCS at the workplace is best practice, using the most current  approaches to maintain compliance and safety.

Join representatives from SafeWork NSW, WorkSafe VIC, WorkSafe QLD, Blackwoods, AES and 3M, along with Greencap experts, for detailed presentations and workshops on the prevalence of RCS in society today, and what we can do to mitigate risk. The audience will also have the chance to have their questions answered by our experienced panel.

SafeWork NSW's session will focus on current SafeWork initiatives in managing the risk of RCS across different environments.

WorkSafe Victoria will be covering the application of crystalline silica and hazardous substances regulations as they relate to the Victorian construction industry, and common misconceptions and areas for improvement for works involving crystalline silica.

WorkSafe Queensland's session will discuss the core requirements of the Work Health & Safety Act 2011 in relation to managing RCS exposure in Queensland, and elements of Queensland's draft managing respirable crystalline silica dust exposure in construction and manufacturing of construction elements Code of Practice.

Blackwoods Engineering Control session will cover utilisation of engineering control, wetting/dust suppression equipment for tools, examples of equipment available, case studies, site clean-up, and H and M class vacuum cleaners.

AES' session will cover the latest technologies in monitoring RCS and how real-time specific RCS monitors can assist in testing the effectiveness of health risk control measures, as well as provide instantaneous real-time warning of a situation which is potentially hazardous.

3M's session will include particulate filter selections, respiratory protection programs, protection factors, achieving protection and fit testing.
