    Lee Hoy
    Olympus Educator, Photo Instructor
As owner/operator of Big Bend Birding & Photo Tours, I focus my time on helping others enjoy the beauty of the Big Bend National Park Region and serving as a freelance photographer when time permits. Publishing is fun, but my main interest is in helping others find that special bird or teaching them to capture spectacular images while they are visiting Big Bend National Park or surrounding areas. I am an award winning photographer and my images have been in Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine, Texas Highways, Bird Watcher’s Digest, & NANPA’s Expressions.

I also serve as a photography workshop instructor for Wildside Nature Tours and Kevin Loughlin with destinations such as the Galapagos Islands National Park, Ecuador, Amazon Riverboat Cruise, Costa Rica, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park in winter, and more. You can see some of my images from these destinations in my portfolio page on my website.

My passion for birding began during my first visit to Big Bend National Park in August 1989 when a Canyon Towhee caught my eye in the Chisos Basin. Since then, I have traveled to 49 states and 7 Canadian provinces in search of the birds and wildlife of North America. Big Bend is my favorite and I have been on every trail and road in the park. No one is better equipped to serve as your guide to make sure you have a wonderful experience in the park, Fort Davis, Marathon, Marfa, or other points in-between.

John & Lisa of Merrill Images
Olympus Educators, Travel and Social-Impact Photographers
We create images to evoke joy and wonder, inspire action and strengthen communities. For us, photography is a lifelong journey of mindfulness and expression, and we relish opportunities to learn from and connect with the people and places we photograph. Travel photography has been our passion for over 25 years. In both cities and wild places near and far, we strive to evoke the unique essence of people, places and events.

Based in the Seattle area, we often combine outdoor recreation and nature photography with skiing, hiking, and rafting adventures in the Pacific Northwest. 5 years ago, we switched from big, heavy cameras to nimble, lightweight, weatherproof Olympus cameras with superb optics and creative functionality – and have never looked back!

Represented by Getty Images and Danita Delimont, our photos are used by travel clients and featured in guidebooks, websites and other media, including National Geographic Traveler, Smithsonian, Geo, Sunset, and Outside magazines. We’re delighted that one was recently chosen for the cover of the wonderful novel Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

We enjoy helping both new and experienced photographers (with any type of camera) unleash their creativity through personalized online coaching, workshops and photo tours. In 2021, we’ll lead workshops in the Pacific Northwest and small group tours to Vietnam (April) and Ladakh in Northern India (September).

We also use our visual storytelling skills to help non-profit organizations doing vital work, especially those improving education and tackling the climate crisis. In 2019, our social-impact photography Witness to Hope was exhibited at the Seattle Foundation.
