The countdown is on. This month marks just six months until Making Tax Digital for Income Tax becomes mandatory. Time is running out to get both clients and your practice ready.

As busy season looms, accountants face the challenge of juggling client work with MTD preparations. This next month is a really important time to try and get at least some clients onto the MTD testing and also plan for getting your clients onto MTD ahead of the mandation date with the steps that you will need to take for each client who will be mandated to join MTD from April 2026.

In October’s episode of the MTD Accountability Club, practitioners will share how they’re managed to get clients to agree to join the testing as well as their struggles and successes from the past month of preparation.

AccountingWEB’s Jake Smith will be joined as always by Chris Downing from Sage, as well as lead tax expert Rebecca Benneyworth and Jon Harris, Director of Accounting4Actors, to bring a real-world perspective.

Every month, the MTD Accountability Club tracks the progress of accountants and bookkeepers as they prepare for the launch of the government’s much-talked-about digitalisation of tax. Practitioners share the progress of their plans, while we focus on a key issue that might snag their progress this month.
