Plastic molding is a part of our everyday lives. In this presentation, Uddeholm USA will talk about the current trends in the plastics industry, next-generation stainless tool steels, production techniques and additively manufactured parts and components.

Uddeholm’s past drives their future—with over 350 years of experience in steel manufacturing, they will share the historical developments and current efforts toward sustainable steel manufacturing. This would include the latest forging, heat treatment, electro-slag remelting and powder metallurgical technologies.

This presentation will focus on advancements in stainless tooling materials, in particular the versatility of high hard stainless steel. The presenter will review the benefits of and new possibilities in combining toughness, polishability, corrosion and wear resistance with high hardness up to 58 HRC. Also discussed will be the value of using a steel with a matrix-based microstructure to achieve a high-gloss surface with only a few steps, while still maintaining high hardness.

One of the latest technologies is additive manufacturing. With Uddeholm’s internal production sites, they are developing additive powders specific for the mold industry. They can deliver powders to their customers for their printing needs—or in combination with their voestalpine printing centers, Uddeholm can print finished components. Uddeholm will also present their Corrax grade that offers unique benefits for AM molding applications.

Please join the Uddeholm USA Director of Technical Services Patricia Miller to learn about the Uddeholm grades that have been specifically developed to address and refine the needs of the evolving plastics industry, as well as how the Uddeholm global technical team supports the design, manufacture and production issues facing the plastics industry today.
