The unique cybersecurity challenge containers present is they are largely ephemeral; with most of them running for five minutes or less. Too often developers assume that short life span reduces the chances any vulnerability encapsulated in those containers will be exploited. However, it’s probable thousands of containers will be running at any given time so the odds are actually good cybercriminals will be able to exploit a container vulnerability. In addition, some of those containers are now running for longer than five minutes as more stateful applications are deployed on Kubernetes clusters.

The challenge is determining the best way for developers to assume more responsibility for application security in a way that doesn’t impede developer productivity.
