The currency industry is quickly becoming more and more environmentally aware and organizations are implementing major changes in the way they do business to reduce negative impacts to the environment. Thanks to international standards and proven solutions, our industry is “Taking Action Together” to make a difference. In this webinar, CCL Secure will share their extensive knowledge on environmental sustainability. They will also share the details of their own efforts as a global company to become carbon neutral in 2030 by creating a “circular economy”, and how they are supporting central banks in achieving their own sustainability goals.     Lachlan McDonald
    CCL - Technical Services Manager
    Lachlan McDonald is a Chemist and has over 26 years of international experience in banknote substrate and print. Over this time Lachlan has worked for Portals Ltd, De La Rue Currency and for the past 16 years CCL Secure. Lachlan graduated in Chemistry from University College, London University in the UK and is also a business graduate from the University of Melbourne in Australia.
    After 8 years at De La Rue, Lachlan returned to Australia, and joined CCL Secure. For 8 years Lachlan was Head of CCL Secure’s PolyTeQ® Print Services division being responsible for the smooth transition from paper to Guardian® polymer banknote production at now 20 Banknote print works and leading central banks such as England. This involves all processes from design to end of life destruction and recycling.
    Since 2014 Lachlan has lived in Zurich and is currently on the EMEA regional management team responsible for CCL Secure’s technical support to Banknote printers, technology partners and Central Banks. This cover all areas from Banknote design, production and destruction and recycling.

    Christoph Koffler
    Sphera - Technical Director
    Chris Koffler is the Technical Director for the Americas of Sphera’s Sustainability Consulting practice. In this role he is responsible for the quality of all sustainability consulting projects across the region, methodological development, and project oversight. In addition, he is the primary lead in selected areas such as the automotive sector.
    Chris is a firm believer in the importance of high quality and accurate data to inform product design and strategy development towards a more sustainable future. Over the last 17 years, Chris has worked on hundreds of Life Cycle Assessment and Carbon Footprint projects across a wide variety of industry sectors, including but not limited to the automotive, metals & mining, building & construction, chemical, electronics, consumer goods, packaging, textile, and financial sectors, either in a project manager, quality assurance manager, or independent reviewer role.
    Chris received his Doctorate in Engineering from the Darmstadt University of Technology in 2007. His PhD work was on Automotive Product Life Cycle Assessment and was carried out at the Volkswagen Group Research Department in Wolfsburg, Germany. He came to the United States in 2010 for his current position at Sphera (formerly thinkstep, formerly PE Americas). Chris has published numerous papers in the field of Life Cycle Assessment and frequently provides his expertise in peer and critical reviews.
    Chris is a board member at the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment (ACLCA) and is the current Chair of the Joint SETAC North America/ACLCA LCA Interest Group. He has represented the U.S. and SETAC in the development of various LCA-related ISO standards and has taught Product Life Cycle Assessment at Yale’s School of the Environment and the Harvard Extension School.
    Besides being a total LCA nerd, Chris is a proud dad of two sons, a dog person, an audiophile, a bookworm, and nap enthusiast.
