About
A church leader in Vanuatu told his community: “The Word of God must come into our language because God wants to talk with you in your language.” With a desire to see lives transformed, he began the work of translating the Bible. That’s when Michael and Danielle Smith had the chance to come alongside the church leader’s team as translation advisers.

Join Michael and Danielle as they share the story of God’s faithfulness through the joys and challenges of the Bible translation process.

Michael and Danielle began serving as translation specialists in Vanuatu in 2009. They have three children.

Michael Smith
Translation Specialist
The Smith Family Michael and Danielle Smith first went to Vanuatu in 2009 to work as Bible translators. Michael initially became interested in missions after visiting some family members working with Wycliffe in Papua New Guinea. Danielle became interested when attending a summer linguistics program with Wycliffe staff as teachers. Each spent time testing missions as singles; Danielle in Africa and Michael in the South Pacific. They both decided to pursue Bible translation long term. They met at a linguistics school in Dallas. A shared interest in board games and chocolate brought them together, and they married in December of 2006. They graduated in 2007. Alexander, their first child, joined the family in 2008. A year later, once he was old enough to travel, they set out for Vanuatu. Their second son, Denham, was born in 2010. Finally, their daughter Eleanor came along in 2013.
