Milagros “Millie” Marrero, aged 61, passed away on December 25th 2022 in Enfield, Connecticut. Millie was born on October 25, 1961 in Mayagüez, PR to Gerado Marrero and Ana Celia Feliciano. She moved to New York City where she lived up until September 2022 where she moved in with her daughter and son in law in Connecticut. She married Gustavo Salazar in October 1986 and had a daughter, Amanda.
Millie was a fierce woman – she was loving, kindhearted, strong-willed, and positive. Though she struggled with health issues stemming from her organ transplants in December 2004, her second spinal surgery in July 2022, and what seemed like endless stays in the hospital. It was her positive outlook on life that got her through the hardest of days, she faced her problems head on and made peace with whatever the outcome may be.
Since her recent move to Connecticut, she had been making a wonderful recovery, she loved exploring the new area and the peace and quiet, compared to the city where she spent most of her life. Finding herself feeling better for the first time in years, she regained her fiery spirit. She spent her weekends going to the shopping centers with her daughter, and cooking large family dinners.
She had a passion for D.I.Y crafting; from her hand painted curtains, to her mosaic kitchen backsplash, her painted Christmas ornaments were always a hit to the many she gifted, and to the ornament topiary set she made for Christmas, which made our new house the talk of the neighborhood. She was always waiting to feel inspired for her next project.
Millie also loved to cook, her specialties ranging from lasagna, crispy fried chicken, pasteles, flan, and many more missed dishes. It was her dream to one day open a restaurant to share some of her favorite dishes with the community, though her dream did not quite come true – She always brought a homemade dish wherever she went, inspiring others to try new recipes.
Millie is survived by her daughter, Amanda, her three older sisters – Haydee, Selma, Rosa, her two older brothers – Heri Berto, Daniel. As well her 3 nieces and 12 nephews. In addition to her surviving kin, she shared her love and opened her home to so many. She found many of her “chosen” family over her years in New York, notably The Toledo Family, The Lukas Family, The Carlucci Family, The Aria’s Family, and her new in-law’s The Sapinski Family. While her passing was an unexpected one. We acknowledge Millie touched so many lives and acted as a wife, mother, sister, and a beloved friend for countless people.

Le apasionaba la elaboración de bricolaje; desde sus cortinas pintadas a mano, hasta el protector contra salpicaduras de la cocina con mosaicos, sus adornos navideños pintados siempre fueron un éxito para los muchos que regaló, y para el juego de topiario de adornos que hizo para Navidad, que hizo que nuestra nueva casa fuera la comidilla del vecindario. Siempre estaba esperando sentirse inspirada para su próximo proyecto. A Millie también le encantaba cocinar, sus especialidades iban desde lasaña, pollo frito crujiente, pasteles, flan y muchos platos más que extrañaba. Era su sueño algún día abrir un restaurante para compartir algunos de sus platos favoritos con la comunidad, aunque su sueño no se hizo realidad: siempre traía un plato casero dondequiera que iba, inspirando a otros a probar nuevas recetas.
A Millie le sobreviven su hija, Amanda, sus tres hermanas mayores: Haydee, Selma, Rosa, sus dos hermanos mayores: Heri Berto, Daniel. También sus 3 sobrinas y 12 sobrinos. Además de sus parientes sobrevivientes, compartió su amor y abrió su hogar a tantos. Encontró a muchos de su familia "elegida" durante sus años en Nueva York, en particular, la familia Toledo, la familia Lukas, la familia Carlucci, la familia Aria y la familia Sapinski de su nueva familia política. Si bien su fallecimiento fue inesperado. Reconocemos que Millie tocó tantas vidas y actuó como esposa, madre, hermana y amiga querida para innumerables personas.
