https://www.bigmarker.com/series/49-gulls-simplified-with-kev/series_detailsIn this session Kevin will discuss Larger gray-backed and dark-backed gulls. Nine species of gulls (including the newly grouped Thayer’s Gull in the Iceland Gull species) comprise some of the more challenging gulls in North America. We will cover them as individuals, with a few comparisons to similar species.
Kevin will help you understand the complete variation in plumages found throughout the first, second and third years of a few gulls to help you understand the variety of plumages for each species. (Note: More complete comparisons of similar species will be handled in part 3.)
We will move on to rare or unlikely gulls next. Five species of very rare or unlikely to be seen gulls are covered in this brief overview: Ross’s Gull, Ivory Gull, Black-tailed Gull, Kelp Gull and Slaty-backed Gull. We will not go too deep into the ID of these birds, but only give you a brief understanding of their features and plumages by age to help you recognize their differences.
