Since, Dr. Myers has worked at Valliere & Counseling Associates/Forensic Treatment Services providing individual and group counseling and performing evaluations for a wide range of forensically related issues. His primary focus has been on the assessment and treatment of violent and sexual offenders and their victims. Dr. Myers has a special interest in cognitive-behavioral therapy and places extra emphasis on the values of safety, honesty, accountability, and responsibility.
Offenders, personality disordered individuals, and resistant clients often deny responsibility for their problematic behaviors and abusive acts, either outright or by blaming other factors, including victims. Accountability is necessary in creating change in clients, for their choices and to address their personality factors. Dr. Myers will discuss this issue in terms of fostering a sense of agency and improving accountability in difficult clients. (90 minutes) * 1.5 CE credits
