In today's "fake it till you make it" world, there is often a dangerous disregard for authenticity and honesty. Ironically, those who take this approach may have no problem inflating the skills they don't actually have, while those who suffer from imposter syndrome often have an abundance of skills and talents, but lack the confidence to recognize and share them.

This skewed perception of oneself can stem from a variety of sources. Some say it’s because of the social media comparison culture, and yes, that’s part of it, and I’ve been working with people in this field for the past 20 years, long before we had Facebook and Instagram, so it’s a contributing factor rather than the cause. These beliefs come from a myriad of places, some of which we'll discuss during this live webinar facilitated by The NeuroSuccess Coach, Marilyn Devonish.

For those suffering with imposter syndrome, the fear of public speaking may be linked to a belief that they are not good enough or do not have enough expertise to speak on a particular topic. They may also worry about being exposed as a fraud or facing criticism or rejection from others.

You might not immediately link public speaking, presenting, running workshops, leading online meetings or speaking on Zoom or webinar calls, with imposter syndrome, however, it’s pivotal. The fear of public speaking may be linked to a belief that you don't have enough expertise to speak on a particular topic, or worry about being exposed as a fraud or facing criticism or rejection from others.

As one of my Breakthrough Session clients put it at the start of the day: "Although I have a big team and run a multi-million pound division and projects, I always feel as though I'm just about to be found out."

If you’re 'running the Imposter Program', everything else you try to do can downhill from there, and although you can be extremely competent, and seemingly in the game, there’s always that threshold point, the prospect of which triggers self-sabotage and self-doubt.
