John Mertic is the Executive Director of Open Mainframe Project. John has an open source career spanning two decades, both as a contributor to projects such as SugarCRM and PHP, and in open source leadership roles at SugarCRM, OW2, and OpenSocial. With an extensive open source background, he is a regular speaker at various Linux Foundation and other industry trade shows each year. Joe is a Senior Technical Staff Member in the IBM z Systems software group, an Open Mainframe Project ambassador, and a founding committer of the Zowe project. He is a frequent presenter at conferences worldwide helping to connect open source technology and practices to the mainframe computing world, and was recently included in the Planet Mainframe list of influential mainframers. Prior to working with mainframe computing, Joe had a background in open source working with the Java Community Process authoring a number of language specification requests, as well as being a team lead for the open source Eclipse IDE.
