    The gig economy, as broadly defined to include engaging in online income producing work, continues to get attention from lawmakers and law enforcers. This presentation will briefly review the federal, state and local tax rules applicable to gig workers. Select law changes and proposals on the gig workforce are explained and analyzed, including California's AB 5. Tax policy considerations of proposals are critiqued with discussion on how aspects of the gig workforce should be considered in modernization of tax rules.
