Mary Immaculate College

Mary Immaculate College (MIC), a university-level College, was founded in 1898. It is the oldest third-level institution in Limerick, Ireland’s third-largest city, in the mid-west of the country. It has a growing and diverse community of just under 5,000 students, enrolled in undergraduate programmes in Education, Liberal Arts, Early Childhood Care & Education and a range of postgraduate programmes at Graduate Diploma, MA and PhD levels.

MIC’s main campus is conveniently located in a leafy suburb, just ten minutes’ walk from the centre of Limerick City. Limerick is a beautiful, safe, historic, riverside city with a low cost of living. With access to all major routes, MIC is just twenty minutes from Shannon International Airport and near all the most scenic destinations in the Shannon Region e.g. the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren and Bunratty Castle.

The ‘MIC experience’ is unique, giving students a home away from home where you will achieve the goal of being a highly employable graduate and a well-rounded individual.

MIC’s undergraduate programmes are offered on a centrally-located campus with state-of-the-art facilities in Limerick City. All the amenities of city and town are on the doorstep, from sports and culture to shopping and socialising. Our campus is characterised by an informal, relaxed atmosphere and friendly rapport between students and staff.

The College prides itself on its excellence in teaching, learning and research with engaging and challenging courses. Our programmes move beyond the lecture theatre—offering opportunities for study abroad and real-life work placements—and will give you the essential skills for a vast range of careers. As well as the academic aspect, personal development and student satisfaction take priority at MIC. It’s never a case of ‘all work and no play’ with a mix of sports, activities and volunteering through the network of college clubs and societies.

Each year MIC welcomes over 1,000 new first year students. MIC’s exceptional student retention rate of 94% shows that the majority of these students are happy with their choice and prosper. The reason for this exemplary retention rate? In the main it can be attributed to our student centric ethos, highly supportive atmosphere and extensive range of support services.

We take our duty of care to students very seriously here at MIC and we want our students to leave the College having benefitted from academic programmes and student supports which prepare them fully for professional life in the 21st century.

Top reasons to study at MIC:

Student population of 5,000 students allows for small class sizes and excellent student/lecturer interaction. You are not a student number at MIC; you are an essential member of the College community. The off-campus/ study abroad element of Year 3 is optional for international students allowing them the opportunity to complete their honours degree in just three years, saving the tuition payments of a fourth academic year. MIC has a city based campus within walking distance of the city centre and student accommodation options. This allows for a vibrant and healthy study life balance MIC Limerick’s leafy 25-acre campus combines architecture from past and present that makes it truly unique. The essential facilities for lectures, study and recreation are all here but its compact size and friendly atmosphere ensures that students have ‘a home away from home'. Excellent student retention rate of 94% shows that students are happy at MIC and receive the required support for them to complete in full their academic studies at MIC.
