Performance. Art. Music. Politics. Fashion. The Undergound.
They all come together in the body and sound of NYC Drag
performance artist Kevin Aviance.
With four #1 Billboard Dance hits and listed as Billboard’s
96 th dance artist of all time, over 10 stunning music videos and
a fan base stretching from New York to Tokyo, Kevin Aviance
is a bonafide LGBTQ Icon and “Living Legend and has the
(Glam) Award to prove it.
Kevin Aviance was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia
along with his seven siblings, where he honed his skills at
grabbing attention through music, dance and theater in the
basement of his parent’s house. Citing influences from Grace
Jones, Boy George and David Bowie. Determined to conquer
New York, Aviance set his sights on Washington DC where
he was indoctrinated into the legendary House of Aviance, a
community of DJs, singers, actors, drag queens, visual and
performing artists.
Kevin caught the attention of several venues in Miami and
after a successful run in both Miami and South Beach LGBTQ
scenes, he got his chance to take a bite out of the Big Apple
moving to the epicenter of the club and music scene of 1990s
New York City.
Kevin set the performance bar so high that he not only
achieved the undisputed title of NYC Queen of nightlife, that
included residencies at legendary nightclubs like the original
Sound Factory, Arena, Twilo and the Roxy, he spawned a sea
of imitators and did something no other drag queen had
managed to achieve before to such an extent: He crossed
over. Both gay and straight people attended the music

themed events Kevin hosted, two scenes that had not
necessarily crossed paths were now arm in arm.
His debut album, Box Of Chocolates (Wave Records)
introduced Kevin's hard-hitting sound with the club hit,
“Cunty,” Not only did “Cunty” bring forth the genre of the “bitch
track” but it was also recently covered by Jennifer Lopez in
her Vegas show. It remains a ball scene vogueing staple. The
album also spawned the #1 hit cover of the George Kranz
song “Din Da Da”.
Kevin has performed alongside Whitney Houston, Cher, Lil
Kim, Mary J. Blige, Natalie Cole, Cyndi Lauper, Janet
Jackson, Bette Midler, was featured in Madonna’s Secret
video, and performed his own show at NYC’s “Summerstage.”
He has collaborated with famed DJs and producers including
a long standing collaboration with Junior Vasquez, as well as
with Victor Calderone, Basement Jaxx, Deep Dish, François
Kevorkian, DJ Gomi, Danny Tenaglia, Tom Stephan, Johnny
McGovern, Ari Gold, Grammy Award-winners Peter Rauhofer
and Hex Hector and two-time Grammy nominated Tony
Moran on his sophomore album Entity (Emerge Records)
which spawned two #1 dance hits, “Alive” and “Give It Up.”
In 2006, Kevin made national news as the victim of a hate
crime. The New York Times and an appearance on the Tyra
Banks Show, brought some much needed attention to the
epidemic of gay bashings and hate crimes. He made a
triumphant return, even with his jaw wired shut, at the NYC’s
Gay Pride Parade later that month.
Kevin has appeared in films Freaks, Glam Gods and Rock
Stars, Naked Fame, Punks and recently was the poster boy

for the 2019 HBO documentary WIG. Kevin’s story was also
featured in the Gucci sponsored film piece “In The Space Of
Love,” directed by McArthur genius recipient Wu Tsang, that
made its debut at the 2019 Fringe Festival and showed in
Gucci stores around the world.
Kevin’s groundbreaking work has been noted in academia by
the late queer theorist Jose Munoz in his book “Cruising
Utopia.” Kevin was recently asked to memorialize Jose with a
performance at New York University. Kevin was also thrilled
and honored to receive his knighthood by the Imperial Court
for the 30th anniversary of the Night of a Thousand Gowns.
Kevin’s third studio album was a mixtape called RAW; A
collaboration with producer M. Arana and a tribute to the
underground house music ‘Sleaze’ scene.
Kevin could not be more excited for the upcoming release of
his fourth studio album, Black Queen. The album features
songs Kevin has been testing out on audiences all over the
world for the last 10 years. These epic tracks will finally see
the light, including scorching hot, brand new songs, on this
long-awaited opus.
Kevin’s work is pioneering in the world of drag, music and
performance yet always maintains a deep relevancy to what’s
happening in the world. If you are lucky enough to catch him
live, whether in his one-man theater piece, club appearances,
or even his “Instagram Live,” his performances bring an in-
the-moment-shock-to-your-system-emotionality that is like no
other. Kevin Aviance is a once-in-a-lifetime, true living legend
and entity.
