PSN Webinar: Top Tips for Facilitating Online Meetings

Wed, 15/09/2021 · 18:00 · London
About This Webinar

In the first of a series of Peer Support Network webinars, Emma Thompson and Nicola Standring-Brown will share what they have learnt about how to facilitate online meetings effectively during the pandemic - specifically related to their experiences with facilitating meetings for the South Yorkshire Respiratory Interest Group (PCRS peer support group). The session will be practical and give suggestions and pointers for good practice (as well as highlighting potential pitfalls!).

This session aims to equip those who are starting out in the journey of putting their peer support meetings online.

The presentation will be followed by a Q & A session.

After starting her career as a staff nurse in an acute and high dependency respiratory ward Nicola found her passion for respiratory medicine and undertook a masters degree in long term conditions. She moved into specialist respiratory medicine as a clinical nurse specialist participating in pulmonary rehabilitation, outpatient clinics, oxygen assessments, and supporting ward staff in the management of respiratory patients. Inspired to take action earlier and prevent as many late diagnosis and emergency admissions as possible she then moved into primary care working as a practice nurse before qualifying as an ANP. Today she retains special interest in respiratory delivering updates in-house and externally and supporting the wider community of health care professionals through helping to run the South Yorkshire Respiratory Interest Group (SYRIG) locally and acting as vice chair to the PCRS conference organising committee. She is ARTP qualified in both interpretation and performance of spirometry.

I work as a Lead Primary Care Development Nurse at Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group with a special interest in respiratory work. I have been a nurse for over 25 years and have worked in a variety of settings including as a Practice Nurse prior to joining the CCG. I have been involved in different respiratory initiatives in Primary Care in Sheffield and am passionate about sharing best practice and facilitating learning across the multidisciplinary team. I have chaired the South Yorkshire Respiratory Interest Group since early 2019, and have a great committee who work with me. We hold well attended regular educational sessions for health care professionals across the region. These “learning lunches” have been delivered virtually during the pandemic.
