As battery energy storage systems (BESS) grow in scale and take on increasingly complex roles in electricity networks, system architecture is becoming an important factor in determining long-term performance, operational flexibility, and project value.
Conventional centralized architectures have been widely deployed in utility-scale storage, but DC-side parallel connections can introduce challenges when battery clusters operate under different conditions. String power conversion system (PCS) architectures offer a different approach, providing independent control at cluster level and opening new possibilities for improving energy utilization, reliability, and operational flexibility.
In this pv magazine Webinar, we will examine the evolution of BESS architecture and take a closer look at the differences between centralized and string PCS designs. Experts from JDEnergy will explain how independent cluster-level control can influence system performance and lifecycle value, as well as how string architecture can support emerging requirements such as grid-forming functionality and intelligent energy management.
The discussion will then move from architecture to practical application. Using JDEnergy's eBlock-418A and Galaxy-2 solutions as examples, we will look at how string PCS architecture can be implemented in real-world energy storage systems and how system design can support multiple operating modes, efficient energy utilization, grid support capabilities, and simplified lifecycle management.
Operational BESS projects in Europe and China featuring the eBlock-418A will provide practical examples of the technology in the field, with a focus on reliability, flexibility, and long-term project value.
Finally, we will turn to Spain, where WDenergia and JDEnergy are developing a local partnership in the BESS market. WDenergia will introduce its activities in Spain and discuss the companies' cooperation, which is targeting approximately 200 MWh of annual BESS sales. The presentation will include a nine-cabinet BESS project using JDEnergy's solution and an outlook for WDenergia's BESS project pipeline and expansion plans in the Spanish market.
