The solar industry is headed toward standardization on module sizes, and many along the supply chain are breathing a sigh of relief. An optimized standard format promises savings in component supply, installation and shipping, and will end a long period of confusion for the solar industry. In this pv magazine Webinar, Trina Solar explains the value of its optimized sizing and product design based on 210mm rectangular wafers, and treats us to a closer look at the company’s latest cell and module innovations.

In 2019, PV manufacturers began see advantage in larger sized cells and modules and many increased the size of their products to target higher power ratings and energy yields. Since then, different ideas have existed as to the optimal module format, creating a challenge for system designers and component suppliers.

Today, nine manufacturers have reached a consensus on an optimal format of 2382x1134mm. This standardization will reduce supply difficulties in the industrial chain, wastage of materials, and challenges in the application of solar modules of different sizes.

In this webinar, Shirley Zhou, senior product manager at Trina Solar, will explain why Trina’s introduction of the 210R rectangular wafer is key to the return to standardized dimensions, and how this will benefit the industry from design to shipping to installations. Zhou will also take us through some of the innovations present in Trina’s latest 210 Vertex N modules, including the company’s “i-TOPCon” approach to the latest cell technology upgrade.

Standardization also makes life easier for manufacturers of mounting systems and other components, allowing them to optimize their offerings for lower cost and higher energy yield. Chengyin Tang of Trina Tracker will explain how modules in the newly introduced standard format are built for compatibility with the latest trackers, including Trina Tracker’s Vanguard series, promising further savings on BOS cost.

Finally, we hear how all of these optimizations increase the reliability of supply. Honglei Sheng, senior consultant at UL Solutions, will take us through the process of conducting a bankability study, and treat viewers to a closer look at the latest report into Trina Solar.
